Gumphof - Markus Prackwieser
Gumphof is a productive reality located in Novale di Presule in the province of Bolzano, whose roots go back to ancient times. In fact, there are testimonies of Gumphof already in some documents belonging to the sixteenth century, which highlight the great history of the winery, owned for over two centuries by the Prackweiser family. A know-how of experiences and passions that is passed down from generation to generation, and today sees Markus as the family representative at the helm of Gumphof. Markus is a young and attentive winemaker, who loves dialogue with colleagues, and who never stops traveling to the most important wine regions in the world, in order to grasp secrets and novelties to experiment within his own walls.
The winery's vineyards are oriented towards the southwest, and are located at an altitude of about 400-550 meters above sea level, on land characterized by a significant slope, reaching peaks of up to 70%. The terroir is characterized by river gravel, and has a moraine-sandy formation, which is ideal for grape cultivation. Moreover, the climate, favorably influenced by the alternation of warm and cold currents coming respectively from Lake Garda and the Dolomites, contributes to creating perfect temperature excursions for the proper ripening of the grapes. Among the rows, the typical grape varieties of the area are cultivated, focusing on Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Pinot Nero, Schiava, and Gewürztraminer. Every operation is followed with the utmost attention, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, so as not to squander what nature has granted throughout the year.
The range of wines offered is interesting, pleasant and balanced in presenting identity labels, from which the beauty of the Valle d'Isarco emerges. The heart of the production is represented by the whites, where the Sauvignon and Pinot Bianco belonging to the “Praesulis” selection are synonymous with guarantee and reliability. The reds also denote incredible charm. Schiava and Pinot Nero play the role of protagonists and, especially the latter, reaches important qualitative peaks with the Reserve “Renaissance.”important qualitative peaks with the Reserve “Renaissance.”
