Tenuta Belvedere

Among the pleasant settings of Oltrepò Pavese, where the plain begins to ripple creating lush hills and elevations, stands Tenuta Belvedere in Montecalvo Versiggia, reborn thanks to the young and promising winemaker Gianluca Cabrini. Recently renovated in 2013, this winery was actively producing during the last century under the ownership of the Sarchi Faravelli family, falling almost into disuse after the death of its founder in 2004. It is thanks to Gianluca, previously a worker in the automotive sector and driven by a vibrant passion for viticulture and the Oltrepò terroir, that Tenuta Belvedere was reborn in 2013 and is fully dedicated to organic and sustainable winemaking of eccentric labels that are nonetheless strongly tied to the local tradition.

The vineyards of Tenuta Belvedere cover an area of about 10 hectares on the hills surrounding Montecalvo, where the climate moderated by the maritime currents from the Ligurian Sea and the soil made up of marine clay and limestone perfectly draining makethis Oltrepò area perfect for the production of Pinot Nero. However, the indigenous grape varieties also find an excellent setting, revealing a particularly marked territorial bond especially through the Bonarda refermented in the bottle and Croatina, which represent genuine and pleasantly rustic bottles, capable of perfectly reflecting the historical winemaking tradition of these hills.

The labels of Tenuta Belvedere are produced without the absolute use of synthetic chemicals, fully embracing a production philosophy faithful to Mother Nature, which Gianluca considers akin to a majority partner in his reality: viticulture results in minimal environmental impact, with organic fertilization carried out only if necessary before the winter months, spontaneous cover cropping between the rows, and treatments reduced to the exclusive use of copper and sulfur. The integrity of the grapes is safeguarded and controlled from the harvest, which is carried out strictly by hand in small crates and subjected to strict integrity checks once in the winery: even the use ofsulfites is reduced to the bare minimum to maintain healthy grapes that, through indigenous yeasts, will be vinified to represent in the glasses the tradition of Oltrepò combined with the artisanal innovation of this promising winemaker.
